HELPING CUSTOMERS IN THEIR HOUR OF NEED
Supporting Critical Industries: The COVID-19 pandemic brought the long-standing vulnerability of the medical product supply chain into sharp focus. Demand for medical equipment rose sharply and in conjunction so did the demand for semiconductors globally.
Rochester provided essential support to the manufacturing companies that transformed production lines to focus on constructing ventilators used in the frontlines to support and sustain life.
Rochester shipped millions of critical components used in ventilators and diagnostic systems to countries like Japan, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Canada and across the United States to support uninterrupted production.
Solving Supply Chain Disruption: The temporary delay in supplies as factories shut down when the coronavirus pandemic first hit was followed by a new surge in demand driven by changing habits fuelled by the pandemic led to a worldwide semiconductor shortage and lead-time issues.
Despite the challenges Rochester was in a unique position to offer our customers support for long lead-time products. Through our partnerships with key suppliers, such as ON Semiconductor, Infineon Technologies, NXP Semiconductors, and Texas Instruments, we supported our customers with a broad range of 100% authorised and guaranteed devices. During this unprecedented period of high demand, we ensured that our 15 billion devices remained fully stock and ready to ship globally.
Providing Peace of mind: As one of the industry leaders, Rochester is committed to Quality, we supply products and services that satisfy our customer needs and high expectations. We have quality certifications, such as ISO-9001: 2015 Certification, AS9120B Certification, TAPA FSR-A 2017, Qualified Manufacturers List (QML) MIL-PRF-38535, Qualified Suppliers List of Distributors (QSLD) and ITAR State Department Registration. We also comply to the important environmental standards such as, RoHS – Restriction of Hazardous Substances, WEEE – Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, REACH – Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals and Conflict Minerals.
The quality certifications and authorised partnerships offer customers peace of mind that the products they are investing in are certified, guaranteed and authorised by the original manufacturer.
CREATING AWARENESS
Operating in the End-of-Life products space, Rochester understands the challenges businesses face to manage their product life cycles. As an industry thought leader, Rochester regularly publishes best practice tips on obsolescence management and anti-counterfeiting, helping customers mitigate the risk and cost associated with it.
GROWING FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH
Rochester has continually grown from its inception in EMEA over a decade ago delivering its unique business model into its European customers which has allowed Rochester to ramp up its growth and expand its footprint across the region in the last five years.
Financial Growth: Despite the negative economic effects of the COVID-19 outbreak worldwide Rochester continued to thrive. The Rochester reach has grown as has its customer base which has seen the business grow threefold in the past 5 years and more exponentially in the past 18 months.
Office Expansion: The key focus of the business is our customers and we have worked hard to provide responsive, friendly, localised teams to support customers in country in local language. To achieve this, we have expanded our physical footprint from our HQ in the UK to now having operations in Germany, France, and Sweden and with a clear expansion plan in the next 18 months that will see us further reach areas of Europe that we haven’t before. Additionally, we work closely with our Channel partners in Israel, Italy, and Russia to provide local support that our customers have come to expect from us.
Growing Team: Not only have we invested in physical expansion, but we have also invested in any business’s key asset – its people! We pride ourselves in our Rochester culture where not only have we created a great place to work but fantastic people to work with and it is this ethos that has been a strong contributor to our success. In the past 2 years alone, we have increased our head count in Europe by over 40%, introducing experience, passion, and drive to keep pushing the business forward.
Growing Online Presence and Ecommerce: In our quest for global reach with regional support, in the last 2 years, we have successfully launched regional websites in Spanish, French, Italian, German, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and very recently in Polish. Over 2.5 m people visit Rochester websites per year and the ecommerce revenue has grown by 80% in the last year alone.
Growing Partnerships and Diversifying Portfolio: Rochester has partnered with over 70 semiconductor manufacturers in the last 40 years, and we continue to add new lines to our product portfolio – Ampleon, the global leader in RF Power and Integrated Silicon Solution Inc (ISSI) being the most recent additions. In the last two years we have diversified our portfolio by receiving over ADSP-TS20xS TigerSHARC® family from Analog Devices, FPGA families including the iCE40, MachXO2/3, and ECP5/5G from Lattice Semiconductor, SRAM, DRAM, and NOR Flash Memory from ISSI, and 1st Generation GaN and VDMOS portfolio from Ampleon.
WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS THINK ABOUT US
Waters Corporation: “At Waters, our products stay in the field for 30 years; obsolescence can be a big concern for us. Our best-selling product, Alliance, is 30 years old and this is where the ADSP-2101 was utilized. I see this collaboration between Analog Devices, Rochester Electronics and Waters as the gold standard of how a last time buy should be handled.”
“Waters was facing a last time buy of more than $2 million if Rochester could not replicate the device. Face-to-face meetings allowed Analog and Rochester to store and package two years’ worth of die inventory, so that Waters could keep our production moving. Analog did a superb job providing support and their long-time relationship with Rochester was the key to this success. Our newly replicated device is ahead of schedule and our prototypes are working successfully. In short, we went from a potentially painful and a costly situation, to a smooth and seamless transition. We could not be happier with the results and we wish all obsolescence situations could be handled this way.”
– Mark J. Looney, Senior Purchasing Manager, Waters Corporation
Thyssenkrupp: “Following the EOL announcement of the P80C592 microcontroller, thyssenkrupp Elevator engaged with Rochester Electronics to do a complete re-creation of this component. Working together, Rochester and thyssenkrupp were able to re-create, test and qualify this component within less than a year, from project start to mass production ramp-up.
Collaboration with Rochester was seamless throughout the project, and the professionalism and open communication were key to the successful re-creation program. This allowed us to continue to support our customers without going through expensive and time-consuming re-design.”
– Olli Lehtonen, Cluster Manager, Electrics & Electronics, Thyssenkrupp
Artesyn Embedded Technologies: “As part of our commitment to long-term availability for VME products, our team recognized that we would need to support many of our key customers in highly sensitive markets far beyond the typical product lifecycle. The biggest roadblock to supporting those customers was the lack of availability of the end-of-life, commercial ASIC.
Artesyn® engaged with Rochester Electronics, LLC. to do a complete re-creation and manufacture of that custom ASIC. Working together, Artesyn and Rochester successfully re-created the design, worked through the manufacturing process, completed final assembly, and after full testing and qualification delivered a successful ASIC re-creation.
Collaborating with Rochester was seamless during that process, with the company applying its expertise, experience, and professionalism to ensure success. Through our “VME Beyond 2020” initiative, Artesyn’s VME customers can continue to source from one of the largest portfolios of Power Architecture VME single board computers in the industry and we would not hesitate to engage with Rochester again in the future should similar needs arise.”
– Scott Burns, Global Electronics Commodity Management Director, Artesyn Embedded Technologies

We are excited to see what the future brings and will endeavour to continue our journey and growth over the next decade.
