Automation in industry and in our everyday lives is constantly evolving. These changes increase capability demands on the technology. Because sensors and systems are being used in more and more applications, they are confronted with a wide variety of challenges. Sensors are not only expected to be more enhanced, efficient, tailored to the application, but also be easy to integrate and as user-friendly as possible. Considering this, InnoSenT is developing a new generation of functional and economical 24GHz radar sensors with the IMD series, which offer advantages to comparable technologies such as PIR and 10GHz.
The IMD-3101 is the latest product in this category. InnoSenT developed the radar system as an alternative for elevated warehouse PIR sensors for motion detection. The capabilities are specially adapted to this application and solve existing problems in the use of motion detectors. The IMD-3101 is ideal for lighting automation in storage rooms, which should typically illuminate the individual aisles between high racks when movement is detected. The special feature of the product is the detection field-of-view, which maintains surveillance on the long corridors in warehouses without being disturbed by movements in adjacent aisles. To enable power efficient operation of lighting systems, only the individual aisles should be illuminated by detecting the movement of a person or a vehicle. In addition, several sensors in the immediate vicinity should not interfere with each other. For this focused movement detection, InnoSenT relies on device sensitivity and combines smart antenna design with state-of-the-art signal processing. In order to achieve an optimal signal-to-noise ratio despite the long range, InnoSenT radar experts designed and engineered an ideal product.
The IMD-3101 operates with precise performance even under demanding operating conditions. Heat or cold, dust, darkness and dirt do not affect the radar detection functionality and do not cause false alarms.
The system offers configurable options for specific situations. An example is the possibility to adjust the trigger impulse in time or the number of observed measurement cycles.
The integrator can set additional filters to fine tune performance. The transmission of the impulse can be regulated based on the measured values of speed, distance, signal strength and direction of movement.
With the IMD-3101, InnoSenT supplies a radar sensor which thanks to built-in signal processing can be easily integrated into an existing system. The radar data can be retrieved as an event list via a UART interface and visualized using a GUI. The additional open collector output enables embedding in a lighting system and direct transmission of the activation signal.
