What a handheld smartphone is to a desktop computer, the I3C PurVue Analyzer™ is to a bench-top oscilloscope. Revolutionary. The power of an oscilloscope is now possible through the SV4E-I3C I3C Test and Debug Module, a downsized yet equally powerful unprecedented function. We are proud to submit this innovative product for one of the 2022 Electronic Industry Awards and believe for multiple reasons that it merits the Test, Measurement & Inspection Product of the year award.
PERFORMANCE AND INNOVATION
The essence of the Introspect Technology I3C PurVue Analyzer™ is that it combines two standalone instruments into one: it takes the powerful protocol analyzer of the SV4E-I3C I3C Test and Debug Module and adds a complete high-resolution real-time oscilloscope that simultaneously samples the protocol analyzer inputs. In other words, it is an embedded 500 MHz, 12-bit I3C protocol-triggered real-time oscilloscope with 2 simultaneous channels. It provides internal probing of SCL and SDA signals within the SV4E-I3C I3C Test and Debug Module, thus eliminating the need for external active probes or bench-top oscilloscopes. It is a license that can be purchased as an upgrade to existing SV4E-I3C devices, or it can be selected as a purchase option on new SV4E-I3C device purchases.
Containing advanced protocol-based trigger options, the I3C PurVue Analyzer™ provides completely seamless debugging capability. Whereas conventional oscilloscopes are often retrofitted with “protocol-decode” features which work only after a waveform has been acquired/triggered, the I3C PurVue Analyzer™ is the complete opposite – it can be triggered by the full protocol analyzer core within the SV4E-I3C and then produces the corresponding waveform.
By leveraging the protocol analyzer to enable the detection of arbitrary user-defined transmission sequences or erroneous bus states, the I3C PurVue Analyzer™ can trigger the embedded oscilloscope to capture instantaneous analog waveforms and uncover subtle signal integrity issues. It thus provides exact time-correlated analog and digital measurements in a single instrument. Without requiring external connections such as those needed by conventional oscilloscopes and protocol analyzers, the highly integrated hardware is simply configured using the award-winning Introspect ESP Software.
IMPACT ON THE MARKET
Because the I3C technology is still so new, engineers are hungry for reference tools to help ensure interoperability in real-world circumstances, namely in the sensor market for mobile devices, IoT devices, system management (SMBus) and DDR5 server applications. So, the introduction of the I3C PurVue Analyzer™ has been extremely timely to allow engineers to capture both analog data (specifically PHY timings with precision) and digital captures simultaneously. The pristine signal measurement, where there are no artifacts due to probes picking up noise from Wi-Fi or RF signals, allows engineers to validate the DUT and ensure the utmost accuracy of their test.
The rich capability of the SV4E-I3C to operate in both controller and target modes has already made it an indispensable tool for design, validation, and software engineers focused on creating sensor or control components. With the addition of the I3C PurVue Analyzer™ option, the SV4E-I3C becomes the most complete solution for design validation and conformance testing of I3C interfaces. Literally, no other equipment is needed to completely validate and characterize an I3C based component or bus.
